  1. That’s absolute bullshit. A policy like that will directly lead to deaths. What about going after the billions the tories raided from the public purse before we start killing off our elderly?

  2. Meanwhile grifters who have sponged off the state their entire lives never have to pay.

    How can that be justified?

  3. If you’re going to torpedo your government to go after rich pensioners, can you at least cancel the triple lock ffs

  4. I would literally find it comical if labour did everything in there power to fuck old people haha. Some of the most self entitled people in our country

  5. The Intergenerational Foundation made this suggestion. What a bunch of cruel, out of touch, arseholes

  6. All the elderly can pay £12 a month for a pre-pay certificate that covers all their meds, like everyone under 60.

  7. >The Intergenerational Foundation charity said free prescriptions should be aligned to the state pension age of 66 to help [plug a £22bn deficit in the economy.](https://archive.is/o/OIswe/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/tax/taxes-rachel-reeves-pay-fill-britain-black-hole/)

    >A government report in 2021 found that raising the threshold would raise £6.2bn over 10 years.

To clarify for those who won’t read… so far this is a whatever-that-charity-is and tories’ thing.

And presented as “aligned to the state pension age of 66” makes quite some sense, to be fair.

  8. Fuck me, a prescription is literally less than £10, why the fuck is this even a discussion. Of course they should have to pay. Any argument that they may not be able to afford it is a joke. I don’t give a fuck if they’ve “propped up the economy their whole lives” if they can’t afford £10 a month, they are financially irresponsible.

  9. Fair enough. Why should working adults not have to pay? Prescriptions should be free after retirement age, doing it before doesn’t make any sense, especially when this age group is the wealthiest demographic in the UK

  10. I think it should either be linked to childhood and retirement or free for all. 60 is such a weird starting point. It’s like they forgot to do it when they upped the retirement age

  11. I’d say most pensioners could afford this. Put a timeline on it to bring it back or make their prescriptions half price at least

  12. Lol at those who are swallowing the Torygraph propaganda and behaving like it’s already happened. They’re citing the IEA, a right wing think tank (propaganda source linked with Tufton Street) as if it’s credible ffs.

  13. Perhaps unrelated, but this is why I just laugh when people my age and younger tell me they don’t vote because there’s no point. Look at what Labour are doing to the demographic that didn’t vote for them: a demographic that they have decided is not worth chasing.

  14. All free stuff should. Be means tested.

Also we should look at why people need free stuff and solve the problem of people needing it. Rather than removing it for people in need.

  15. I mean technically it would relieve the NHS at least in theory… More people just straight up die…
