Prince of Wales: We need people from all backgrounds on our screens
October 9, 2024
The Prince addressed guests at an event co-hosted by Bafta and the Royal African Society to highlight the importance of supporting young people in the film, games and television industries.
More representation but just not within the royal family.
Oh this too:
“Thanking Serkis, Imrie and Merchant for their financial support of the bursary fund in his name” Dude is making how many millions a year now (while not paying taxes) and can’t fund it himself?
While Prince William’s call for diversity in media is commendable, he may not be the ideal spokesperson for this issue. The monarchy upholds a system where wealth and class receive prominence, much like the UK’s acting elite. Many of the most successful British actors, such as Eddie Redmayne (who was William’s classmate at Eton), Tom Hiddleston, and Benedict Cumberbatch, all hail from prestigious, exclusive schools. As the UK’s media struggles to represent diverse voices, the RF similarly remains a symbol of this disconnect.
