My first NHS job was in the RUH back in 2003. They had proper onsite kitchens back then and the food was excellent, great portions of well cooked meals…not anymore!
also that ward is awful, hot, stuffy and too busy 😬
That mash looks nice and creamy. That aside, the meat looks like it’s going to scratch my throat lol.
That’s probably the best hospital food I’ve seen in a long time, to be honest!
I’d say enjoy – it was just as likely to be a curled up cheese sandwich, so you’ve hit the jackpot!
The gravy is too watery for me, but otherwise it looks decent.
Looks ok.
That looks quite nice! My fave hospital food from Dumfries hospital has to be the macaroni and cheese it’s the best I’ve ever had
That looks grand! My first meal after delivery was a morning roll and marmalade, 21yrs ago, but I still remember how great it tasted. The baby was alright but the roll was amazing!!
Ahhh reminds of school dinners in primary. Although I think that was only for special occasions. Usually we got things like chewy sweetcorn and the cheapest most processed mash and a fishcake.
Looks good
Not bad. Looks freshly cooked and not out of a microwave which is nice to see.
First course?
Yikes
That looks great! I got a toffee yoghurt and some toast after i told them i was lactose intolerant. Then i was scolded for not eating lol. Glad to see some hospitals do it better!
Why did the roast potato go to the doctor? It wasn’t peeling well.
That’s not even that bad. I’ve had worse than that at a posh work Christmas do.
looks alright. Give me 2 more spuds and some salt and pepper.
Ngl, that looks pretty decent.
Amazing for hospital food. During my stay in hospital I was given an inedible microwave meal, lukewarm still in its container and later a dry cheese sandwich.
Great food when I had my first kid. Second I got a sad puddle of cold tomato soup for ‘dinner’.
Looks like the Christmas dinner I had in chesterfield royal in 2019
I’m a proper foodie person. That looks good for hospital food.
roasties and mash is crazy
Looks good for hospital food. I’d be disappointed in a restaurant, though. Looks bland and watery.
I loved the hospital food when I was in having my babies. I was surprised you even got a choice of meals to be honest. Yes it’s just basic food that you could cook better yourself, but its not bad. Especially since it has so many people to cater for. It’s pretty decent.
Mmmm that reminds me of my school dinners (which were amazing!)
I mean it’s not horrendous – it’s a hospital after all, not a 5 star dining experience
I’ve been served worse in a massive fucking hotel under a crystal chandelier at a works Xmas do, that cost the company £300 a headsl. This ain’t bad, and at least the veg looks cooked properly rather than just boiled to mush. In private hospitals, you’d still get this, but you’d have paid through the nose for it.
Looks pretty good. After I had my tonsils out, they gave me cornflakes with hot milk. Crikey, that was nearly sixty years ago. Memories ….8-)
Looks really good
Fresh out my primary school canteen
Nice snack, where is the rest of it?
Not a complaint, I hope? My mum said she was diabetic, and was given five roast, rubber, potatoes.
I haven’t seen an NHS plate before 🙂 food looks ok btw
I’ve not eaten since last night so that’s looking lovely
Roasties AND mash?
This is the way.
That looks well-cooked, and congrats!
Where’s the puds!!!!!!?!?!??!???@&&9@*^#€’
Looks really nice for hospital food. When my kiddo was born in Bath, I remember the little kitchen open for drinks and toast all night in the maternity ward.
I didn’t eat a meal there, as I transferred to Chippenham after he was born. That maternity unit was like something out of “Call the Midwife”. Really supportive midwives, decent sized rooms for two mums each only, school dinners and fab puds every day, and you weren’t allowed to take your baby into the dining room to eat, as they wanted you to rest and relax for a bit.
I really didn’t want to go home. I’d still be there now if I could hide the fact my child is now 20. 😂
If I was going to rate it, it would likely be a 5/10
Mostly because it does have most of the elements of a Roast, and it does look like decebt browning on the roast potatoes. Maybe a little much on the veggie front and light on the meat. But this is hospital food so have to temper expectations.
Hope you enjoy! Wishing you the best 💕
Looks good
When my wife was in the maternity ward, they somehow managed to completely ruin the mashed potatoes. Even if I had tried my hardest to make inedible food, I couldn’t have made them that bad
Sprouts look bang tidy
Looks quite good, what do you want for nothing?
The food looks decent but pretty small quantity for a breast-feeding mother I’d say.

I’ve had worse, admittedly in an NHS hospital
Horrific. There are sprouts!
