Martin Lewis Clashes With Lisa Nandy in Winter Fuel Payment Row

Four out of five pensioners who are expected to lose out on the winter fuel payment are on or below the poverty line, according to AgeUK. The charity is now urgently calling on the government to expand the automatic payment to those who receive benefits other than pension credit. Martin Lewis questions Labour Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy on whether the government will accept that thousands will never get the pension credit they’re entitled to.

  1. I have worked all my working life, I retired at 69 years of age and you have refused to pay me my winter fuel allowance all because I receive a very small amount of money over your threshold, now you want me to go and try and fill out forms to get some fuel money, lots of people like me will suffer all because winter will be over by the time our forms are processed. I have now turned my back on the Labour Party . I hope you can live with yourself.

  2. Easy… stop sending our money over to war torn countries and stop giving money and paying for hotels to people who come in on freaking boats

  3. Why on earth don't they phase payments so those just over the threshold still get something. I have the pension and a small NHS pension. I don't know how many countless unpaid hours I did. But I am on about £1,100 and that is above the threshold, yet considered on the poverty line, so it doesn't make sense

  4. What about the people who worked lower wages to enable to have a pension to make up the poor national pension. I could have got a better paying job with no additional pension. Now i find with people getting benefits i have been outstripped on my two pensions.?

  5. The way they targeted it the through the pension credit system was always going to lead to people slipping through the cracks, utilising every possible benefit maybe something that labours permanent benefit voters and their new middle class betters clique are familiar with, but there are many people who out of principle try never to use benefits, not something labour comprehend, secondarily if there is an uptake pension credit to counter the winter fuel allowances removal, they probably wont end up saving any money? secondarily the extra cost that labour & councils are having to go through to reach those who may slip through the cracks, will also cost more, its just a poor way of targeting people. I doubt theyll end up saving much? martins idea of targeting through council tax bands was probably better targeted.

  6. She is sitting in a warm office, while others have to Aotearoa for the money they need to turn the heating on, some pay but putting money on the cards key meters what do these people do?

  7. They are knocking on peoples doors! I doubt it . They will dump their mess on local councils..how unusual. There may be a black hole but the choices they make are theirs not the Tories.

  8. No point extending until April when thousands of pensioners have already died . All the families of the future bereaved should club together and sue this government for criminal negligence . Martin Lewis deserves a knighthood . This money can easily be saved by not putting it into a bottomless pit of a railway line Birmingham to London not wanted not needed billions . Disgusting legislation .

  9. I actually admire GMB for holding this lot to account. I'd almost go so far as to say that they seem to be even harsher on them than they were with the Tories, but maybe that's because all of the presenters are lefties who feel betrayed by their beloved Labour party.

  10. Maybe tax people with over £2 billion at a rate of 50% for all monies above the £2 billion. Why are we quibbling over a few hundred? Either take up the tax cause or give up that one and only weapon we have.

  11. I'd really like a breakdown of this so-called 22 billion black hole. They never give one.. just refer to it as being inherited. Yet continue to give away money that isn't theirs to give. 🤬

  12. Please nobody forget. The uk sent £12.8B to the Ukraine. Labour for you. Not one have a normal functioning brain and even their minions who vote them in can’t ever answer a simple question either.

  13. And the stupidity of this policy is this: they say they are scrapping winter file payments to save money. If they put everyone eligible for pension credit onto the scheme 780k pensioners and gave them back their fuel allowance it would actually cost MORE than the current policy
