  1. “Not just locally, but across Pembrokeshire.”

I’m sorry to break it to them but… that’s still locally. By population, that’s 1/4 of Croydon.

  2. Really disappointing, there are only 4 MOD Radars facing the western half of the UK feeding into our air defence system. One is on Benbecula covering the north west approaches, one is in Cornwall, one is in Somerset and the last is close to Birmingham.

Notice that there is one key area not covered, Wales.

The sites in Birmingham and Somerset are blocked by hills and mountains to the west, so can’t detect low flying aircraft over the Irish Sea, which leaves just the Cornish radar. All it takes is for just this Cornish radar to go down and you in effect are blind in the south west to low flying aircraft.

These radars are key for us detecting erratic, dangerous aircraft such as those being hijacked, or even long range Russian missions. Ireland lacks a sophisticated air defence network like we do so the first warning we’d likely get would be too late for quick reaction typhoons from Conningsby to get there. Especially if it’s key strategic assets getting attacked, such as certain nuclear power plants on the south west coast of the UK, or even civilian population centres.

I know that was a lot, and there’s a bit of speculation thrown in too, but there really is a necessity to putting such a strategic site in Wales. The MOD don’t just plonk these sites down for a laugh.

Stuff like this convinces me that Plaid Cymru really just don’t care about the big picture outside of their *’milltir sgwâr*’

If Plaid Cymru are serious about stopping this site *and* defending the wider interests of the people living here, they should campaign for Ireland to join NATO /s
