Just read the back of a ketchup bottle for the first time in 40-something years and noticed it says you need to refrigerate after opening…. Am I the only one who has always kept it in the cupboard? Are my family minutes from death..???

Yes, it should be stored in the fridge.
I’d get sorting out your wills, the end is inevitable.
Nope, never has and I’ve made it to 40
Always. Didn’t know about the 8 week limit though. Not that it’s ever been an issue.
I left mine out of the fridge and I turned into a newt.
I got better.
Yep! Not for safety reasons, I just like it cold
Yes, otherwise it starts to taste weird IMO.
Pretty sure it’s ok to keep in cupboard before you open it, once you open it it goes in the fridge or bad things happen.
Yes
Just asked my family and they were all like, nah. Cupboard.
Always been a cupboard storer for most regular sauces. Flavour never changes and nothing has ever gone bad.
Need my fridge space for beer, meats and cheese.
Saw somewhere that Heinz had replied to this question and they basically said that years ago, you could keep in the cupboard but due to them having to remove various ingredients, it now needs to be refrigerated.
Think it just affects the taste though rather than actually doing you any real damage.
Sometimes do,sometimes don’t, keep it till it’s finished too don’t worry about the 8 week thing
Mine stays in the cupboard. Cold ketchup is horrible
Always kept it in the fridge.
I do these days. As a kid, nope, lived in the cupboard. Nobody died.
Never got through a bottle in 8 weeks ever. Probably 6 months os so.
Yeah? What kind of animal says “yeah do you know what this needs? Room temperature tomato sauce”.
No, we don’t even use it that regulalrly and it never goes off.
Yes
I eat mine all in one serving
Depends how old it is. Once the sauce has been open for a while it moves up to the fridge
No and my kids think their gran is weird for doing so. 😂😂
I think we did when I lived in the Middle East, but it was like 50 Celsius there.
No.
Yes because it dosnt fit in my cupboard and I prefer my ketchup cold, the combination of cold sauce on a hot salty chip is delicious!
Yes…..
Pretty sure you should eat well within 8 weeks. 🤔
Bottle usually lasts ~3-4 months, never stored in the fridge, never had any issues because it’s full of sugar and vinegar so it’s not like it can really go bad unless it’s been a long time…
Nope, I have a bottle on my kitchen table that’s about a year out of date. 🤢
Never mind where you keep it, why is there an asterisk next to Our *sun ripened tomatoes?
Are the tomatoes a lie?!
Lots of vinegar in ketchup. No actual need to fridge it, but it will go brown quicker in the cupboard even if it still tastes the same.
I still keep it in the fridge though so I know where to find it. Anything that enters the condiment cupboard is lost forever behind an impenetrable barricade of barely used turkey bisto and random pickles from the Asian supermarket.
I do, but I don’t keep brown in the fridge for some reason, and I definitely don’t stick to the 8 week rule
I do but nobody else in my family does I find it horrific that they keep things like mayo in the cupboard for months. Sauce I’d guess is probably somewhat safe but mayo has egg etc right.
No I don’t and I don’t give a damn how many people are saying yes. Who the hell wants cold ass ketchup on their hot food? Cold ketchup in a burger, thanks, now the whole thing is just warm-ish. Keep it out the fridge and do your food a favour.
Why is there an asterisk before sun on the first line below the name?
Always kept it in the fridge, but the one in mine doesn’t have the 8 weeks bit
I used to but prefer it at room temp, so the newest bottle now lives in the cupboard. Never in my life have I finished a bottle in 8 weeks either so I guess I’m double doomed.
“Keeping mustard in the fridge…are you high?” Johnny JR
This, my friends, is how wars start.
Always keep it in the cupboard and it lasts far longer than 8 weeks.
In the fridge? Only food for 8 weeks after opening? This is just what Big Ketchup wants you to believe, man!
No. Dipping hot food in to cold ketchup just feels wrong. I’m 32 and I’ve not died yet 🤷🏼♀️
