Haven’t bought a set in 30 years; got this through this morning.

Started buying Hornby but the realisation hit me that future offspring can chuck Lego trains about as much as they like, whereas Hornby will break as much as look at it.

So the build starts. Any other Lego train fans out there, or any other Lego for that matter?

  1. Started buying and building lego with my daughter, only problem was that she grew out of it and I didn’t.

  2. Loved it growing up as a kid and thought about getting some Lego star wars stuff a few years back whilst watching the Mandalorian, I then saw the price! Has it always been that expensive? My naïve younger self thought Lego was a cheapish toy our parents got for us as kids to keep us entertained.

I’ve got it on the family Christmas list so hopefully I’ll be building some Lego whilst very merry over Christmas!

  3. The Mrs and I decided to give it a go again recently. We found the Lego Architecture ones nice because you build a famous landmark and the instructions give historical facts depending on what stage of the build you are at. We enjoy it a lot with some chill music and snacks. Enjoy yourself and don’t let kid inside die!

  4. Nice get, that’s retiring at the end of the year.

Got FAR too much Lego around my flat, but I’ve enjoyed it since I got properly back into the hobby in 2018. Find it really helps relax my brain when i’m building or MOCing.

  5. Not so much me but my best bud is, he’s got the Hogwarts castle linked to his home smart light system, can get it to light up from his phone, it’s fucking sick

  6. I buy lego for my kids just so I can build it, unfortunately they’re now at an age where they want to steal my fun

  7. Yeah but space in the house limits me from going nuts & getting some of the big sets i want.

  8. I’ve got a red Lego train (reminds me of the Swiss railway). It’s still mostly built and intact, but I only put it together in about ’87. The track is powered by a Hornby transformer though, no idea why.

  9. I’ve been really getting into the plant and flower botanical Lego sets. Building the bonsai tree at the moment and love that the pink version is all little frogs.

  10. Massive fan as is the whole family. We moved to a new house with a garage. I’ve converted the garage into a Lego room. 😀

Best estimates is that we have about 200,000 pieces.

  11. Not a Lego train fan per se but I do have a Lego Christmas train for around the tree, not that I put it up any more as I can’t be arsed with it all.

I do enjoy Lego builds and just finished the Yamaha MT-10SP and the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolutely this weekend.

  12. My husband(35) has several technic construction vehicles, cars and he bought me(34) Mos Eisley Cantina a couple of birthdays ago and we’ve got the Millennium Falcon in the attic which we’ve made but haven’t got enough space to keep it out, next house it’s going to be out and hopefully placed into a coffee table

  13. I have a full, appropriately-measured chess set in Lego, and a functioning/rotating desk globe. I’m planning on buying more pieces to make the chess set more elaborate/Victorian themed.

My favourite collections in Lego are things which still fulfill the design purpose of the real object, and I’m thinking of getting the Mona Lisa they’ve recently given a glimpse of. It’s measured to about 36 by 25. On the smaller side, but still about the size of a typical casual portrait.

  14. I’m more into the technic sets but yes I’ll buy one set a year and i have a wall of my office dedicated to them.

  15. I buy bags/bins of mixtures of Megabloks/LEGO/LEGO Duplo/random other stuff, in charity shops, take them home and sort them out properly, redonate.

I had LEGO as a child in the 1960s, no idea if sets existed then, what I had was just bricks, bases, windows and doors, from memory.

  16. Always been into lego but never had any sets. 6yo got into it and has various Disney sets.

I’ve now got six pieces in my office, the Wave wall art, and five cars (mustang, countach, 2f2f skyline, McClaren F1 and bonds db5).

  17. Wasn’t a fan at all until I bought the Jaws set (it’s my favourite film) Now hooked at 55

  18. Lego is my biggest vice. The money I saved by not smoking, drinking or taking drugs funds my Lego habit.
