Best hair salon for women that won’t break the bank?

I'm travelling to Malta soon and I'd like to get a haircut (I'm a female with wavy/slightly curly hair) and also would like to dye my hair (although I don't normally do this and I'm worried I might react to regular dyes). I'm looking for a great quality salon that also won't break the bank around St Julian's but I'm quite flexible if there's a really good one outside this area

I found a place called Hair Haven (https://hairhaven.mt/) and the prices almost look too good to be true. Is this a good place?

  1. Since there’s a salon or barber on every corner the prices here are really competitive, as a guy I get my hair cut for 18 euros, and there’s places that are even cheaper lmao, back in the Netherlands where I’m from that would be like 30 to 40.

  2. I went there for years. The service is overall great. They’re very good at blow-drys and they often have workers divided into different treatments so you won’t have to wait for the client before you finish getting her hair dye to set in before you get your trim. It’s very affordable! I don’t know if it’s still the same but I used to get a haircut and blow-dry for just €22.

But, it’s still a pretty small salon and it can get easily crowded, so it can feel a bit claustrophobic with all the noise and fumes. The staff is very friendly and they aren’t the type to tell you they’re only going to cut 2 inches and end up cutting 8 instead. They’re professionals in their talent.

My only bad experience is that one time I asked for layered curtain bangs (if that makes sense – i showed a picture) and the lady owner was so distracted gossiping with her coworker and clients that she wasn’t really looking at my hair. And she quickly cut straight bangs on me (which I hate!) and left a huge chunk uncut. The worker who was in charge of drying my hair tried to fix it but I was still unsatisfied at the end. Thankfully, my hair was healthy at that point so it grew quickly. But I hated that the co-owner of all people was too distracted to listen to her client.

So, I would recommend because overall I received good service. But be very clear and careful on what you want. Show them pictures and make sure that they really look at it. You’ll be handed off to about 2-3 staff workers so just make sure that they understand what you need. If they seem too distracted, point it out and politely ask them to focus. They’re very friendly so i’m sure they’ll understand. And feel free to step outside for some air if you need while waiting.
