  1. This cannot work unless they use a island territory. The rejected refugees will just smuggle themselves again, this time easier since they have land.

Many options are available like Sardinia, which will be a bigger deterrent than albania.

Literally people smugglers work in albania to get them into the UK already lol

  2. They’ll be getting a phone call from Rwanda – “Hey, we hear you want a detention centre. We’ve got one barely used”

  3. I hear Lybian slave markets, ahem, I mean detention centers are offering services for pretty reasonable prices.

  4. The EU also wants to do processing centers outside Europe. That way people won’t have to make the dangerous journey and the external border can become stronger (for example Frontex will be tripled in size).

Countries that won’t cooperate with the returns could also face EU trade sanctions.

  5. Why should we trust them to follow through with any of this? They are the original perpetrators of the population exchange.

  6. Damn, so it wasn’t cologne that convinced them.. I wonder what they do care about, if it isn’t the safety of European women and children.

  7. When the UK suggested Rwanda, it was a crazy idea, but now that 17 EU states suggest it, it’s no longer that crazy…?

  8. That’s a good start. The EU must enforce deportations at any cost. Europeans are welcoming, but we’ve been taken advantage of for too long by people who are ungrateful, hate our way of life, and have no business being in Europe in the first place.

  9. Ah yes, deporting people to a country they never wanted to go, have no attach to, neither support network nor will to stay in will surely not go wrong.

At least, with the Turkey deal, the idea was stoping them there, even if the means were atrocious, but here…
