Humza Yousaf : Scotland, regrettably, played a leading role in the British Empire. An empire that enslaved & forcibly transported millions of people from Africa to British colonies. If we do not teach our history, including the darkest chapters, then we are doomed to repeat our past mistakes.

Is that what the ferry budget is really for?

Is Caledonian Macbrayne going to unveil a fleet of frigates built secretly on the Clyde and then set sail to reconquer the world?

Jokes aside, the triangle trade was taught when I was at school 20 years ago. The Atlantic squadron and abolition movement were not.

Any comments about the slavery practiced by a certain 5th century Arabian warlord? I believe his teachings have also had a major impact on Mr Yousaf’s life and that of many other Scots.

No doubt Yousaf would agree that we should also be teaching about those horrendous practices in our schools. We would not want the prophet’s modern followers to think such behaviour is acceptable now. Or to try and emulate him.

    Slavers are evil afterall.

  2. Well yeah, nothing incorrect or really that controversial there
