  1. The problem with this one, other than the inherent desperation it implies around having enough bodies to sustain the only war strategy they can manage, is that if even a small number of NK’s continue to defect, it’s going to create a total embarassment for both Russia and NK, and put the brakes on the whole deal. They’ll have to implement more strict controls over how they’re used and commanded, which will impede their effectiveness.

The number of 10,000 that came out could get wiped out in less than a month if they’re used the way they likely will be. The strategy of squad infiltration is slow, costly and not a great long term occupation plan. The North Korean army has fought one war in it’s entire existence, and would have been completely wiped out by the UN if China hadn’t poured a million zombie slaves into the fight.

This is what it looks like – a complete desperation move that screams to the disastrous manpower problems the Russians have. While Russia is importing troops from other countries, Ukraine is holding fast to it’s mobilization age limit. That tells you a lot about the state of the manpower situation on both sides. Russia is going to find occupying and exploiting any stolen land it’s currently sitting on might be as much of a man-muncher as their stupid, barbaric assault tactics.
