Moment billionaire steps off SpaceX Polaris Dawn in ‘risky’ private spacewalk

A billionaire astronaut has exited a SpaceX capsule and is in the middle of carrying out the first ever private spacewalk as part of the company’s “risky” mission to test out new spacesuits.

The Polaris Dawn’s mission, the riskiest yet by the Elon Musk-led company, began shortly after 11am UK time at 700km (435 miles) in altitude, and involves two astronauts venturing outside Crew Dragon while the other two remain inside.

Suit purges and leak checks marked the official start of the spacewalk mission with the capsule door opening around 30 minutes later.

  1. I herd a report that the internal suit temp hit 93 plus degrees… The suits are only air cooled and lack the insulation for any type of real work that might be required for external mechanical work…

  2. this ain't no space walk, more like a Space Hatch, as in a little chicken hatching from its egg, only worse, because a chicken can actually leave its egg shells behind after hatching but this guy poked his head out then went right back in lol

  3. Seems odd that people think this is awesome… it's noooooot … it's scary as fook and NEVER REALLY HUMANITY WILL DO THE DREAM OF SPACE EXPLORATION WITH PRESSURISED CYLINDERS CALLED "space rockets" … It will not work plus it looks like an poorly edited video … all he wants to do is to put his gadgets into space in fear of reverse engineering thus keeping his "tech edge". CHINESE IDIOT FROM SOUTH AFRICA.

  4. What I always find bizarre about such footage is that the person in their suit is essentially in a vacuum. Shouldn't the suit, since it contains air, inflate? And it even creases, which seems very strange to me, but maybe someone can explain it?
