Moment Hurricane Milton hits Florida as over two million lose power

More than two million households are without power after Hurricane Milton smashed into central Florida, the latest figures indicate.

The website PowerOutages shows nearly 100% of customers in Hardee County have been without power, with people in Sarasota, Manatee and Pinella counties also hit hard by cuts.

Speaking from the White House earlier on Wednesday, President Joe Biden said Milton is expected to be “one of the most destructive hurricanes in Florida in over a century”.

  8. I live 9 miles from there. My home is fine and no power outage. Home has been through 3 major Hurricanes 2017 2022 and 2024. Without damage without power outage. It is concrete and has a tile roof. Very fortunate today.

  10. Out of power in 2024 that because they still use rubbish wooden power poles with nearly all homes connected above ground unlike loads of Europe which is all underground

  21. I'm having a problem with the reporting. How is this reporter standing in this supposed 'life threatening' storm; his life is still in tact. All this is just inflaming the scenario beyond what it needs to be. My Brother is in Florida and as much as I wanted him to leave he's assessed the radar images and ignored the reporters, and he's fine. Florida's coastline building code in particular could be upgraded a bit, as opposed to all these pre-fab houses that they are putting down just to say 'I have a beachfront property'~a property that rescue personnel has to come and dig up to take your $tupid-@$$ out from under it.
