Southeast Asia ravaged by deadly floods, landslides after Typhoon Yagi • FRANCE 24 English

Hundreds of villagers in Myanmar waded or swam through chin-high waters, fleeing severe floods around the remote capital Naypyidaw on Friday, while Vietnam began clearing up after deadly Typhoon Yagi. People in parts of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar have been battling floods and landslides in the wake of Typhoon Yagi, which dumped a colossal deluge of rain when it hit the region last weekend.

  1. I'm heard someone say that it's got even worse for Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar because China also released the Dams water down too. But I'm not sure if it true or not though.

  2. We shouldn’t rush to blame anyone, including the Junta, without evidence, simply because they are our enemies. It’s important to think critically and fairly before making assumptions. Myanmar’s current flooding, caused by the remnants of Typhoon Yagi and ongoing monsoon rains, is a result of many factors. While the Junta may not have informed some regions properly, there are broader issues such as deforestation, climate change, poor infrastructure, and geography that also contribute to these disasters. Flooding is not unique to Myanmar—it's happening in other parts of the world, including Southeast Texas, Poland, Romania, and Italy.

It’s crucial to consider these global patterns and not make unfair accusations based purely on conflict. Criticism should be based on facts, not bias, otherwise, we risk stooping to the same level as those we oppose. Let’s think deeply, research thoroughly, and maintain fairness in our critique. Long live the spring revolution!
