Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s comments suggesting that Ukraine might seek nuclear weapons if it cannot join NATO. Putin called Zelensky’s remarks a “dangerous provocation” and warned that any steps in this direction would be met with a corresponding reaction from Russia. Zelensky later clarified that he wants NATO membership, which he believes is better than any weapon, not nuclear arms. As tensions rise, Russia is set to host the BRICS Summit in Kazan from October 22-24, with new members Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joining for the first time. Putin emphasized that BRICS countries are expected to contribute the bulk of global GDP growth in the foreseeable future, despite ongoing geopolitical challenges.
