Australia: King Charles visited the New South Wales Parliament, where he presented lawmakers with an hourglass to help time their speeches. During his address, he underscored the crucial role that strong parliaments play in upholding democracy. “It just remains for me to say what a great joy it is to come to Australia for the first time as sovereign and to renew a love of this country and its people which I have cherished for so long,” he remarked to the attendees. Outside, the King was warmly greeted by hundreds of members of the public, who gathered to catch a glimpse of him and shake his hand. Later, he traveled across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge to Admiralty House, where he met with Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn and the Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley. On October 21, the King and Queen Camilla will continue their tour in Canberra before returning to Sydney.
