Norway plans to simplify health research rules

Prior consent will not always be needed for future medical research

The Norwegian government has proposed legislative changes to facilitate health and medical research, particularly around patient consent.

Regulations need to be better aligned with medical, technological and organisational changes in the practice of health research, according to the government. “The changes we are now proposing will contribute to us being able to integrate clinical research into patient treatment,” said Jan Christian Vestre, minister of health and care services.
