victims bring £36 billion case in UK court – Channel 4 News

When the Mariana dam burst in 2015 it created Brazil’s worst environmental disaster. The dam had been holding back mining waste so when it burst, a huge wave of toxic liquid burst down a river valley, killing 19 people.

Today, one of the largest class action lawsuits in British legal history began at the High Court on behalf of more than six-hundred thousand victims.  Their £36 billion claim is against the Anglo-Australian mining giant BHP which co-owned the company in charge of the dam.
