Gender gap in unemployment widens in Latvia / Article

The unemployment rate for women decreased by 0.3 percentage points, down to 5.1 %, which is the lowest rate recorded since June 2023 when it was 4.8 %. The unemployment rate for men reduced by 0.1 percentage points, down to 8.1 %. Consequently the gap between the sexes widened to 3%.

The number of unemployed men declined by 0.5 thousand over the month, down to 38.9 thousand, however, the number of unemployed women fell by 1.4 thousand, down to 24.0 thousand.

The actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.6 % in September 2024. It has reduced by 0.2 percentage points over the month and risen by 0.2 percentage points over the year.

There were 62.8 thousand unemployed persons, which is 2.1 thousand fewer than a month ago and 1.8 thousand more than a year ago.

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.1 %. It has reduced by 0.2 percentage points over the month and 0.2 percentage points over the year. This rate is lower as not all persons classed as unemployed are registered as such.
