Belgium League Midfield Sensation Stuns Ghana- Confirms Eligibility, Willingness To Play For Super Eagles

20 year old Cercle Brugge midfield maestro Lawrence Agyekum has confirmed his eligibility and willingness to play for the senior national team of Nigeria despite his Ghanaian roots.

On loan to the Belgium side from Austrian side RB Salzburg he has been one of the standout performers in the Belgium top division this season with 14 games under his belt so far. Nine in the league, four in the Europa League and also one in the qualifiers.

At Salzburg he played more with the B team FC Liefering in the second division, but he boast of four first team appearance with the main team in the top division. The loan is meant to help him develop further.

His performances have already opened up talks about Cercle Brugge taking up the option of signing him permanently at the end of his loan spell. His contract with Salzburg runs till the summer of 2025.

Registered as a Ghanaian , he told OwnGoalNigeria.com in an exclusive chat that he is eligible for Nigeria through his mother, and won’t hesitate to jump at the chance of playing for Nigeria if he is called up by coach Austine Eguavoen.

” My father is from Ghana but my mother is Nigerian. I can play for both nations. That’s one part that many people don’t know about me and if the chance to play for Super Eagles comes, I won’t say no”, he revealed.

” I have love for both countries and want to see them do well. Not too good for Ghana in the AFCON qualifiers but they are doing well in the world cup qualifiers. For Nigeria reverse is the case. I follow both closely”, he stated.
