Retired doctor Mhairi Legge might be aged 81 but she’s just tackled a rugged three-day hiking challenge across the lava fields of Iceland.

The great-grandma rom Longmourn in Moray walked 38 miles across the extremely challenging terrain, wading through streams and facing steep climbs and descents which made the distance seem even longer.

Mhairi’s success has resulted in nearly £6000 being raised for the Children’s Air Ambulance.

She said: “I owe a big thank-you to everyone for their generous support.

“Iceland was difficult with the wind howling and the rain falling on your tent at night, but it was a remarkable place.”

Mhairi walked her 36-mile trek across Iceland for the Children’s Air Ambulance because it relies on public support for 96% of its funding.

The charity operates a flying intensive care unit to transport critically ill babies and youngsters between hospitals.
