If reports from Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet are to be believed, the lineup for Melodifestivalen 2025 is beginning to come together.
The paper had already reported thirteen names that it is highly confident will compete in the Swedish national final next year. Now, another five artists have been linked by the outlet with entering the contest.
These include a Finnish-Swedish comedy group, as well as two singers with recent TikTok breakouts. According to a behind the scenes source, though, there are still many artists who are awaiting the news from broadcaster SVT that they have a place in the competition.
Aftonbladet’s predictions for the lineup of Melfest are historically very accurate. As a result, they are anticipated by fans of the contest every year and seen as a reliable indicator of which acts are expected to compete.
The full line-up for Melodifestivalen 2025 won’t be officially revealed until later this year.
Two of the new artists linked by Aftonbladet to Melodifestivalen 2025 broke through on the social media app TikTok. Björn Holmgren started out on the platform before topping the Swedish charts in 2022 with his song “Ut med allt”. He’s now expected to compete in Melfest next year.
The other TikTok star rumoured to be competing is sixteen-year-old Arwin Ismail. Despite only being eligible for the contest by a few months, Arwin is being given a huge opportunity to show their talent on Sweden’s biggest stage at such a young age.
Two further male singers who are expected to perform at Melfest are Angelino Markenhorn and Kristofer Greczula. Angelino has competed before, although they failed to make it out of their semi-final in 2022 with the song “The End”.
Greczula, meanwhile, has previously appeared on hit Swedish show “Allsång på Skansen”, but is expected to make his Melfest debut next year.
The final of the five new names linked by Aftonbladet to Melodifestivalen is KAJ. The trio was formed in Finland in 2009 and, interestingly, are a comedy group, They’ve released seven albums in their native Finland and also performed in two musicals; they are now expected to bring their diverse talents to Sweden in 2025.
Aftonbladet has also provided a further update on whether Frans will compete at Melfest next year. The 2016 winner, who performed “If I Were Sorry” at that year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, is still uncertain to compete despite strong rumours. However, Aftonbladet say there is ‘a hint’ that Frans may have co-written a song in the competition.

Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest 7 times – tying with Ireland, the most recent being in 2023. Abba´s win in Brighton 1974 with the song “Waterloo” marked Sweden’s first victory. Since missing out on the final in 2010, the country has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest three times. Only in 2013 and 2021 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
