Ambassador Ossowski wrote the following in the Anıtkabir Book of Honor:

“Honourable Ataturk,

Your work and achievements as the father of the Republic of Türkiye remain the foundation upon which Türkiye has become a strong and proud member of the community of nations.

The European Union and Türkiye, as candidate to the European Union, share the common values of democracy, human rights, the commitment to peace and security as well as to economic and social progress. We work together as strategic partners to ensure that our values and the UN charter are upheld not only in our common neighbourhood, but across the world. We are united by our strong political, economic, social and cultural ties.

We condemn all acts of terrorism.

On this very day, we express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of yesterday’s heinous act of terror and extend our solidarity with the Turkish Nation.

I begin my mission confident that our joint commitment will increase our cooperation, strengthen our longstanding relations and contribute to build a prosperous and peaceful future.

I pay my respects and admiration to your legacy.”

Following the ceremony at Anıtkabir, the Head of the Delegation of the EU to Türkiye Ambassador Thomas Hans Ossowski officially took up his office.
