A travel influencer has revealed how you can snag a free trip to Iceland by utilizing a service that offers travelers the chance to explore the Nordic country as they travel.

Travel influencer Raychel, who posts under the username notluxe, shared the travel hack which gives travelers the opportunity to stop over for free.

‘This program is often offered by airlines to encourage tourism in their hub cities,’ Raychel wrote in the caption for the video, adding in a comment that it generates thousands of extra tourists a year.

‘Think an extended layover, for no extra airfare cost,’ she added.

With Icelandair, passengers can add a free stopover in Reykjavik, the capital city, for up to seven nights for no extra charge to the ticket.

Raychel broke down how to score the freebie, explaining you must be flying over the Atlantic for the stopover to be free.

‘So if you’re already planning a trip from say the US to somewhere in Europe, and you feel like adding Iceland for free along the way, you can add a flight to Iceland at no extra cost,’ she explained.

‘So you book your flight from your origin to your destination as per usual and then select add stopover.

‘You can stay in Iceland for one night, three nights  – up to seven nights,’ she shared.

In her example, Raychel had selected a flight from Chicago to Spain, and then back to Chicago for less than $400.

‘Turning one trip to two without buying any extra flights,’ she said.

Raychel then told viewers this hack isn’t just for Iceland, with other airlines offering the same deal with the free stopover set up.

‘TAP (Air Portugal) lets you stopover in Portugal for free, Emirates provides free stopovers in Dubai, Copa offers free stopovers in Panama City.

‘You can also do this in Finland, Turkey, [and] Qatar,’ she continued.
