Germany is set to significantly boost the number of visas issued to skilled Indian professionals. The annual visa cap will be raised from the current 20,000 to 90,000, reflecting a fourfold increase aimed at strengthening the economic and professional ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi announced the same while addressing the 18th Asia Pacific Conference of German Business on Friday.

“We have made a roadmap of Viksit Bharat in the coming 25 years. I am happy that in this important time, the German cabinet has released the ‘Focus on India’ document….Germany has decided to increase the visa number for the skilled Indian workforce from 20,000 to 90,000. It will give a new pace to Germany’s growth,” Modi said.

The decision to increase the visa quota is seen as part of a broader effort to deepen economic and technological cooperation between India and Germany. Indian skilled workers have long been valued for their expertise in technology, medicine, and engineering—fields that are crucial to Germany’s high-tech industries. This move is expected to enhance Germany’s workforce with highly qualified professionals, contributing to its economic growth and addressing skilled labor shortages.

Addressing Labor Shortages in GermanyGermany is currently facing a demographic shift with an aging population, leading to increasing labor shortages in various sectors. By raising the visa limits for skilled workers from India, Germany aims to bridge this gap, ensuring that its industries continue to thrive despite domestic challenges. The influx of skilled Indian professionals is likely to benefit sectors like IT, engineering, and healthcare, which are critical for maintaining Germany’s position as a leading global economy.Facilitating Mobility for Indian WorkersThe increase in visa allocations will likely make it easier for Indian professionals to move to Germany for work, potentially streamlining the immigration process and facilitating smoother transitions. This development is also expected to improve bilateral relations between India and Germany, paving the way for future collaboration in education, research, and professional training.
