Lithuanian energy company Ignitis Group announced the decision to participate in the second offshore wind tender, launching a partner selection process (up to 49 per cent). The winner is expected to be announced by the National Energy Regulatory Council, which is overseeing the process, on its website by the end of April 2025.

The company’s objective is to increase its green capacities fourfold from 1.3 gigawatts (GW) in 2023 to 4–5 GW by 2030. It aims to develop one offshore wind project with commercial operations to begin around 2030 and the other one after 2030.

If no partners are selected by the end of the tender, the Ignitis Group will participate in the tender without partners and continue the selection process in parallel.

Lithuania aims to achieve a 100 per cent renewable electricity supply, as reflected in the recently submitted updated final version of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) for 2021-2030.

The Ministry of Energy plans to announce the tender for the development of the second 700 megawatts (MW) offshore wind park in Lithuania on 18 November. The park would provide a quarter of Lithuania’s current electricity needs. In total, Lithuania is planning two offshore wind parks with a total capacity of 1.4 GW.
