  1. Submission Statement: Oriana Skylar Mastro provides insightful analysis on the strengthening ties between China, Russia, Iran and North Korea. The author examines China’s careful balancing whereby it empowers U.S. adversaries with minimal risk to it’s own economy and ambitions. Mastro’s strategic acumen provides a blueprint for the United States to counter this budding alliance as well as methods to exploit their differences.

  2. How to stop China and its block.

    (1) US can sanction Beijing and use it as leverage to get Beijing to pressure Russia to stop the Ukraine war?

    (2) Be more like China when dealing with Global South countries.

Fair analysis but, I can’t see US building infrastructure, economic and development aid, that’s not how their diplomacy works. It would be good if they did to try and sway GS countries although, it cannot offer what it doesn’t have, maglev train, bridges, new tech.

To sanction China would become painful for the US. China is one of their top 5 trading partners. US must source along with its Allies (assuming that US will also convince EU to join sanctions) alternative products. And even then that would not guarantee that Beijing will pressure Russia, what might happen instead is push China, Russia, Iran, NK and other BRICS members closer together.

Edit: China’s trade with the US is only 3 percent of its gdp
