But a goal conceded in the 89th meant Canada had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Spain in Friday’s international friendly at Estadio Francisco de la Hera in Almendralejo. Substitute Marie-Yasmine Alidou scored her first international goal early in the second half to give Les Rouges the lead before Cristina Martín-Prieto netted the equalizer for the hosts.
Canada is No. 6 in the current FIFA world rankings, three spots below Spain. Friday marked the first match for both nations since this summer’s Olympics where Canada bowed out in the quarter-finals and Spain lost in the semifinals.
