When Väinämöinen is building a boat using magic, he’s missing parts of his spell to complete it. He figures he’d be able to find them in Tuonela, the land of the dead. He hitches a ride on the maid of Tuoni’s boat, after convincing her that he really needs to go to Tuonela even thought he’s not dead.
When he reaches Tuonela, he finds Tuonetar in Tuoni’s (the god of death) house. He tries to speak to her, but he’s not able to. I imagine the atmosphere being so oppressive, as a living person being in the land of the dead, it’s hard to do anything at all.
Tuonetar offers him a big jug of ale, but it’s filled with worms and frogs. She tells Väinämöinen that he’s foolish to think he can take anything back from Tuonela, and that he’s not allowed to leave at all. Väinämöinen turns himself into a black snake and slips through the nets surrounding Tuonela.
I’ve added some of these things in Tuonetar, like the snake, the worms and a frog;)
The maid and the lord himself sound like cool drawings to do next!
The collections is slowly growing. I’m losing a bit of pace, maybe I’m due for a break;)
