This is actually a very serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Oberstown house holds a capacity of less then 40.
With the growing number of criminal gangs operating around Ireland, they are going to target the younger and more vulnerable of our communities to do their dirty work.
These vulnerable kids are going to be used more and more now that it’s known that the only centre in Ireland to detain children is full.
We need extra detention centres/prisons, extra staff and prison staff. When the local TD comes knocking on your door, make sure to push home that we need our kids protected. We need to have places of detention for those who stray down the wrong pathway.
