After securing a thrilling 3-1 win over Iceland on Thursday in a celebration of their Olympic gold medal victory, the U.S. women gear up for another friendly meeting between the two sides in Nashville on Sunday.
Goals from Jaedyn Shaw and Sophia Smith in the final five minutes gave the USWNT a hard-fought victory. The late flurry built on the early goal scored by young gun Alyssa Thompson, her first-ever international strike.
Now, we’ll see what kind of rotation Emma Hayes comes up with as she looks to give other players a chance to shine ahead of the coming cycle, just like 19-year-old Thompson did.
The Sporting News brings you all the information you need ahead of the second of two friendlies against these top 15-ranked sides.

USA vs. Iceland lineups & team news
A few key regulars are missing from this USWNT camp as they either recover from injuries or manage their minutes.
The most notable absence is Trinity Rodman, who is only just returning from a back injury for her club Washington Spirit and gets some extra rest over the international break. Crystal Dunn, now 32 years old, has been out of club action this month due to personal reasons and will not appear, while her Gotham teammate Tierna Davidson is also missing due to a hamstring injury.
These absences have allowed youngsters like Eva Gaetino, Hal Hershfelt, Olivia Moultrie, and Alyssa Thompson to get a look in the camp. Thompson got the start in the first game and managed to find the net, and Hershfelt came off the bench for the final 18 minutes. Gaetino could see the field here in the second match, and Moultrie could be a candidate to start as well.
USA projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Murphy (GK) — Fox, Girma, Gaetino, Nighswonger — Albert, Moultrie, Horan — Shaw, Swanson, Smith.
19-year-old goalkeeper Fanney Birkisdottir has taken over the starting spot, even while 21-year-old Inter Milan youngster Cecilia Runarsdottir is present. She earned top-tier clean sheets over the summer against Germany and Poland, cementing herself as the regular in net.
Nobody in the Iceland squad comes remotely close to the experience of Bayern Munich defender Glodis Viggosdottir, whose 128 caps are almost double the total of anyone else on the roster. Only the 65 of fellow defender Ingibjorg Sigurdardottir can even claim over half.
Head coach Thorsteinn Halldorsson has shown a propensity to deploy multiple formations, able to organize his side to favor a collection of midfielders or a preference for wide play. The main goal threat is Wolfsburg playmaker Sveindis Jonsdottir who at 23 years old has begun to blossom into one of the world’s top prospects.
Iceland projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Birkisdottir (GK) — Arnadottir, Viggosdottir, Sigurdardottir, Anasi — Antonsdottir, Johannsdottir — Zomers, Vilhjalmsdottir, Jessen — Jonsdottir.
