The show and Seminars held on 17th October 2024 reported its largest-ever attendance. Over 300 investors, retirees, entrepreneurs and family relocators attended the show to seek details of how to start a new life in the sunshine and explore second home ownership in Portugal.
“There is overwhelming interest in moving to Portugal right now. Financial and lifestyle reasons for wanting to leave the UK are combined with a growing appreciation for what Portugal has to offer,” said Christina Hippisley, General Manager of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK
Relocation considerations were top of mind for many of those who attended the Moving to Portugal Show on 17th October, as were questions around tax residency, visas, Portugal’s property purchase process and more. Experts were on hand at the event to provide advice and insights, ensuring that anyone considering a move to Portugal could make informed decisions. Of those attending the show, 30.5% reported they were considering moving to Portugal within the year.
Popular locations
The latest figures show that Portugal is now home to over a million foreign residents, more than 47,000 of whom are British. According to the organisers, Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve are all popular relocation destinations thanks to their vibrant local communities, excellent infrastructures and easy flight connections to the UK – as well as their favourable weather and outdoor lifestyle. At the Moving to Portugal Show, 51.1% of registrants expressed interest in the Algarve, while 45.0% said they were interested in Lisbon.
At the latest show, 81.3% of those present were attending for the first time, highlighting the growing value of the event, as well as the significant appetite for relocation to Portugal. In 2025, based on exceptional demand, the free-to-attend show has announced three further dates, taking place in London on 3rd April and 16th October, and in Dublin on 22nd May 2025.
“The record level of interest in moving to Portugal means there is huge appetite for accurate information and guidance on the financial, legal and practical aspects of relocating. The Moving to Portugal Show exists to connect potential movers with experts in a wide range of subject areas, supporting them to access up-to-the-minute advice and to speak to some of those who have already made the move,” added Christina Hippisley.
