I think people are tired of the typical government we have had for the last 20 or 30 years and they have latched onto Trump because he’s not typical. There was a reason he even got elected to begin with. I think it was more of a “we don’t want this thing” instead of a “this is our guy” at first at least. Now…. IDEK. Social media networks then create echo chambers where these falsehoods are amplified and perpetuated.
It is beginning to happen elsewhere, it just isnt as pervasive in other countries yet. The UK has the daily mail and GB news doing exactly the same thing too, luckily gb news isnt as established yet.
You take a country and you:
– Systematically underfund and purposely allow its school system to rot and wane
– Force religion and other non-educational bullshit into those schools
– You continue your campaign of miseducation, making folks hate each other for the color of their skin or some other attribute they have no control over, rather than question government inaction
– You allow complete monopolistic takeover of your free media and press and you deregulate what ‘news’ means so they your general populace don’t know when they are hearing real vs. controlled news
– And then finally, the icing on the cake (and what most people in the states don’t realize) you make the non-news, news stations available to everyone, everywhere, but not the regular news stations.
This last one is the most insidious to me as it’s the one thing nobody talks about: everyone wants to write of Midwestern and country Republicans for just being so “wrong”… But from their standpoint often, Fox is their ONLY source of news and many of them assume that because it is a ‘news’ station, it is giving them legitimate, unbiased news!
Go buy a local newspaper? All gone. Cable companies are expensive and a monopoly here so many folks don’t have cable/satellite. What about over the air news? Sure, there are local stations (possibly) but all these are owned by Clearchannel anyway. So there’s streaming right? Have you ever browsed streaming news services in the US? Honestly, Fox is the ONLY streaming ‘news’ station that is guaranteed to be everywhere and free.
For undereducated Americans, it can genuinely be difficult to find real, legitimate news sources if you weren’t born/raised in the world of the internet.

I have convinced myself that the polls are completely inaccurate either through more people on the right vs the left responding to polls, false self-reporting, and/or intentional or unintentional screw ups somewhere. I have to assume just more Trump supporters bother with these polls in general since they seem to tie their self-identities more with politics(MAGA) than I see people on the left do.
