Hi Reddit,
I got this letter in the mail from justice department. I don't know what this could be about as I haven't committed any serious offences that I am aware of. I am quite anxious and nerve wreaked. I didn't open the email I got as it looked like a phishing attempt and when I got back to Finland from work trip to Germany and Sweden on Saturday I found this mail in inbox
I do have missed a couple of payments on mobile phone contract ( after moving to a different operator-didnt know there were some outstanding amount , and I paid once I learned about them).
Any ideas or clues. I haven't ever dealt with authorities in my life, so quite clueless here.
I don't want this to impact my Finnish naturalization process, as I have spent 6 years learning Finnish and 0 blemishes on my record ever.
Any idea or help will be appreciated.

I dont know what it says but Ive missed some payments for months and they just called me to remind me, didnt even charge extra for passing the due date, although this was for home insurance
contact the place that sent the mail to you
No idea what it’s about bit according to the date you’re already too late, so 🤷♂️
Contact Länsi-Uudenmaan käräjäoikeus and ask for the person mentioned in the letter. https://oikeus.fi/karajaoikeudet/lansi-uudenmaankarajaoikeus/fi/index/haastemiehet_0.html
You contact that number tomorrow, immediately, they will tell you were to go and get the court papers from (you have been served by the district court this is not something you can mess around with), it is **highly** unlikely to be about an outstanding debt, the papers you pickup will have the details.
It could be anything from a criminal charge (but if you have had no contact with police or immigration that is a little unlikely) or it could be they want some information from you as a witnesses or a bunch of other things 🙂
You are not that late and the court date will not be straight away when you have more info then you can figure out what to do.
There is some sort of document that they want you to receive. Tiedoksianto means a notice. You get all the information you need from either going to the web address they’ve given you or contacting their office directly tomorrow (explain that you have been away and only now got back).
I can’t imagine how stressful it must be but you need more information before you can do anything else.
Edit: I highly doubt that it has anything to do with some missed payments, if you’ve already paid them. If it was a criminal case, you would have been contacted by the police already.
Outstanding bills usually go to a debt collection agency, I’ve never heard of a district court being involved. I would say contact them ASAP. As with most things in life, you’re not likely to find useful advise on Reddit.
Basically “you dun goofed.” Call the number first thing tomorrow and figure out what the issue is. You blanked out the cause of the letter from the “vireille” part which would’ve told us redditors something about the letter’s cause. Thus, how are we to offer any insight into something we literally have _no context or info for_ ?
Downvote me all you want. 😀 You know it’s true.
Just call the number. I got a letter like this, it was about some unpaid bills of a dead relative and there was still time to resolve the issue. After the call they send all the papers. They just wanted to be sure they mail it to the right address.
Do not worry too much. For finnish naturalization process, you have to have serious crimes that you are served to sentences in order to get it refused. You can read it on migri website. Even small charge does not prevent you from getting finnish citizenship.
These letters can be something small just to clarify, does not mean you commit anything. To commit anything, you have to go through the court process that takes long long time and even though, it is unlikely to get you trouble if you did not do anything wrong. The charges need to have very transparent evident to get you convicted.
In Finland, people can sue you but unlikely you get troubled unless the evident is clearly shown. Otherwises, does not matter. Finland is still a justice country. They do not want to convict wrong person for something they did not do. The bar is pretty high!
Relax and contact the number tomorrow. They will get you to know what happens.
I received a similar letter years ago when my rental contract with a big rental company was terminated because of an upcoming renovation. So I had done nothing wrong. The rental company used this method probably because then they had black on white about renters receiving the notice. If you just mail it, they can try and argue they haven’t received it.
You done fucked up
When you call, just tell them you were away on your worktrip and only found the letter now.
