Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, is coming to Iceland tomorrow.
This is stated on the Government Council website.
Zelensky will meet with Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson and address the Nordic Council Meeting held in Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík, starting on Tuesday. There will also be bilateral meetings between Zelensky and the Nordic Prime Ministers and he will also meet the Icelandic President, Halla Tómasdóttir.
The Nordic Council conference will be held in Reykjavík from October 27 to October 31.
Bryndís Haraldsdóttir, president of the Nordic Council, said in an interview with mbl.is earlier this month she expects a powerful and good meeting.
Road closures and armed police
There will be street closures in the center of Reykjavík during the 2024 Nordic Council meeting. There will also be heavy security in the closed area when national leaders of foreign countries attend and police officers who perform security will be armed for their work.

Reykjavík City Hall will be closed to the public
It says that in the center of Reykjavík, Vonarstræti will be closed between Lækjargata and Suðurgata. Templarasund and Kirkjustræti from Pósthússtræti will also be closed, as well as Tjarnargata between Vonarstræti and Kirkjustræti.
The meeting will take place at Alþingi and Reykjavík City Hall under the title “Peace and Security in the Arctic”, and the City Hall will be closed to the public from Saturday 26 October to Thursday 31 October.
Then the parking garage at the town hall will be closed to all traffic, but Tjarnargata from Skothúsvegur will be open to Tjarnargata 14, where there will be two-way traffic on the open part of Tjarnargata.
The biggest political event of the year
The notice says that the parking garage will be closed on Monday, October 28 at 8:00 am and street closures take effect at the same time. The closures will then be lifted on Wednesday, October 30 at 16:00.
It also states that the Nordic Council meeting is the biggest Nordic political event of the year, bringing together 87 members of the Nordic Council, prime ministers, foreign ministers, Nordic cooperation ministers, and various other ministers from all the Nordic countries. In addition, many visitors come from countries outside the Nordic countries.
