PHOENIX (AZFamily) — October is National Pizza Month, and one locally-owned restaurant is serving the longest pizza in Phoenix!
Pizza A Metro opened 16 years ago near 23rd Avenue and Thomas Road. The small, family-owned restaurant offers authentic, delicious, made-from-scratch dishes like pizza, pasta and salads.
“We have a lot of dishes which are made from scratch, handmade, homemade. We treat all of our customers with love, care, special attention,” said Margarita Mart, owner of Pizza A Metro.

A small Italian family with roots in northern Italy started the restaurant. When the family returned to Italy, Margarita, who was not related to the family, took over the restaurant to continue its legacy.
“I got adopted into this pizza world family and I’m very happy with this choice,” said Margarita. “This is not a size of the corporately owned business, and everybody has the hands on and the heart in. We make everything with love and care.”
Although the restaurant is small, with limited seating inside and a back patio, its food is plentiful and filling.
Pizza A Metro is known for having the longest pizza in the Valley. The restaurant’s name means ‘Pizza by the meter.’

“It’s originated the name of the restaurant, and it’s initiated the whole concept of the largest pizza so that never will go away,” said Margarita.

Along with pizza, the restaurant also serves a variety of appetizers, such as chicken wings with buffalo, mild or BBQ sauce, and traditional caprese with homemade mozzarella, tomato, basil, and extra virgin olive oil served on top of an organic spring mix.

Pizza A Metro also has many pasta options, such as the Shrimp Romantica, which includes shrimp, mushrooms and pink vodka sauce on top of spaghetti.
They also have deliciously filled paninis, like the Caprese Panini with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic glaze, tomato, mozzarella and arugula. The sandwich comes with a side of French fries or a house salad. Meat paninis are also on the menu, or customers can build their own. Vegetarian and vegan options are available for anyone with dietary restrictions.

In 2023, Pizza A Metro was named one of Yelp’s Top 100 Pizzerias in the country. Margarita says she was surprised to be nominated and receive the honor.
“We take everything with special care and attention, and we put our souls and hearts into this. This is not just a restaurant to deliver the food. This is more than that,” said Margarita. “It feels absolutely amazing when the results come in place and, and people vote and, and love and like and come back, leave comments and appreciate what we do.”
Margarita says she would love to open a second location in the future. Pizza A Metro can also cater and host events like brunches and parties for customers.
“Come inside, love us, we will love you, enjoy our food, you get a great atmosphere, ambiance and we just want to make sure that every customer leaves our restaurant happy,” said Margarita.
