Hello! Me and my wife will be traveling from Tromso to Russelv in the end of november. This is the route that we have to take plus a ferry – we have experience driving in snowy conditions, we just never drove on the right side.

Any suggestions as to if we should get a 4WD or 2WD car? Or is it better to find some mode of local transportation? Please advise!

  1. Depends on the weather conditions. I would obviously prefer a 4WD, but it’s not necessary in ALL conditions. Better safe than sorry.

Other than that, you should be fine. Remember there is zero daylight.

  2. Just make sure the car has winter tires with studs. I mean, it’s a rental in Tromsø so it definitely should, but it’s best to be sure. I could imagine a scummy rental company charging extra for that.
