    When Tatiana Bilbao thinks of an aquarium, she sees a concrete relic from a forgotten past. The Mexico City-based architect designed an aquarium for the city of Mazatlan from the vantage point of the distant future. For the [Sea of Cortez Research Center](https://tatianabilbao.com/projects/mazatlan-aquarium), her studio imagined a structure rediscovered by people in the year 2289, centuries after it had been overtaken by rising seawaters as a result of climate change. Bilbao designed the aquarium to be reclaimed by the sea.
