So 13 days ago I received a ticket for not using a parking disc (used Google Lens for the ticket, not sure if that's translated correctly but you know what I mean). I hadn't payed it yet assuming the deadline would be >2 weeks, as is the case here in the Netherlands. I just translated the ticket and the deadline is 1 week (I know, super stupid of me not to check earlier)

My question: should I still pay it or should I now wait until I get a new notice

  1. I’m not native btw, if that wasn’t obvious from the description 😛

    Thanks for helping me out

  2. Either pay up or contest it legally.
To pay up, just send the money to the provided IBAN with the transaction number as reason. Only try to contest it legally if you think the ticket is unlawful and you can prove that.

  3. pay it as quickly as you can from now, possibly immediately with a real time transfer to the above IBAN. The ticket says they can fine you if you are late. Whether they will? probably not for a 20 euro ticket.

  4. Just pay it now. Happened to me once that I forgot and was over the deadline a few days, but nothing happened. They have better things to do than go after you if you still pay, because sind up a new deadline and go after you takes time again, so most likely they will drop it the moment you money comes in and is recognised.

  5. The ticket you got is a warning. The reason for the warning is basically to give you the chance to pay the ticket without the hassle (and therefore additional fee) for the town if it is clear that you did it and it won’t get written down in any file. If you deny the ticket (which you did by not paying in time), the city goes the formal way and sends you a Bußgeldbescheid, so basically the same thing with an additional about 30 euro fee for processing. It can also have additional sanctions on it but I doubt that this is the case here.

It certainly wouldn’t hurt to still try and pay it. With a bit of luck they haven’t processed it yet. You can also call the Ordnungsamt after doing it and try to explain to them why you missed the deadline and if they have already started the process. If not and the other person has a bit of goodwill they will let it slide but it is not guaranteed.

I actually don’t know how necessary the call itself is but I heard from a person who called there after missing the deadline and they got around the penalty.
