The United States women defeated Iceland for the second time in four days, this time a 3-1 victory in a football friendly in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday (27 October).

The Paris 2024 Olympic champions fell behind for the first time in 12 games under Emma Hayes, but roared back in the final 20 minutes as Lynn Williams, Lindsey Horan and debutante Emma Sears hit the target.

Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir opened the scoring for Iceland in the 31st minute at Geodis Park. The US beat Iceland by the same score on Thursday in Austin, Texas.

Sears, who came off the bench early in the second half, also set up Williams’ goal, becoming the first American to score and assist on her national team debut.

USA are playing their first games since capturing a fifth gold medal in Paris this summer. Prior to kick-off, the team honoured Mallory Swanson for her 100th international apperance, which was the Olympic final where she netted the only goal in the 1-0 win over Brazil.

Hayes’s side host Argentina on Wednesday in Louisville, Kentucky, before wrapping up the year on the road against England on 30 November and the Netherlands on 3 December.
