Big tech is forcing nuclear on us to satisfy investors with more AI slop. Does anyone still want AI? Maybe it’s time to go on a tech diet.

  1. What’s wrong with nuclear? If Big Tech can get it built, all the better. It’s not a cause of climate change.

  2. Tech & electricity diets aren’t even allowed in the discussion around climate change. Everyone gets offended when it’s brought up and the discussion invariably ends in them earnestly pleading for why their particular brand of wastefulness and extravagance is 100% needed and justified. There are no corners of the Western world remaining where you will be spared the sight of some Rube-Goldberg system of wastefulness so moronic and incompetent you’d be more charitable in thinking it must have been created out of malice than by mistake. Our problem isn’t that we don’t have enough AI or datacenters, it’s that our culture has raised incompetence and wastefulness to the status of virtues worthy of sacrificing our very planet for.

  3. rather than looking for ways to reduce our energy needs, tech companies are out here adding to the problem all in the name of selling you more crap you don’t need.

    cancel you amazon prime subscripiotn

install linux and abandon MS bloat

  4. “Go on a tech diet” is a dumb idea because the vast majority of people won’t do it. So it’s just nonsense if someone says it’s a solution because it ignores the actual reality of the human race. Might as well say that the solution to climate change is unicorns that eat CO2 and fart carbon pellets and Oxygen.

  5. It has its place but I don’t think that 90% of the population really needs it.

I read an article about an AI ran a bunch of the possible combinations when it comes to creating a powerful battery and the it did it in days or weeks. The scientist involved said finding just one of those combinations would have taken 20 years. That’s absolutely fascinating.

(Someone correct me if I’m wrong)

For my farm: I would at most use it to read soil tests and use it to create a fertilizer plan

But why do I need an AI for personal use?

  6. Nuclear is a bad idea. When things go sideways the damage cannot be undone. Chernobyl is still cooking right along, while Japan will be releasing radioactive waste from Fukushima into the ocean for DECADES to come.

I know that the billionaires will do this regardless of the risk, and fools will be their cheerleaders. Have fun with that.

  7. The tech industry wants AI, it’s applications are not consumer they are commercial, they are financial, etc.

  8. I don’t want so, but it’s they’re willing to foot the bull for nuclear tractors, more power to them
