Remember this little legend?

  1. That’s a blast from the past!

It’s probably been over 40 years since I’ve had a bath and I definitely remember him being part of that process

  2. My favourite kids bubble bath was one that had a rubber dinosaur in the bottom of the bottle – the intent was, I presume, to encourage kids of have lots of baths to use it all up and claim the prize, but it always meant my dad would messily try and fish the dinosaur out of the new bottle without getting the bubble bath everywhere

  3. Still sold, but in slightly different designs: https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/313955088

  4. Was there a pink version too? I definitely had the sailor as a kid but my brain seems to be remembering a pink version of it too.

  5. Oh wow, not seen Mr Matey in a long time. Must be more than 20-30 years.

Could’ve sworn there was a Ms Matey as well at some point; Honestly thought they stopped making it around the turn of the millennium.

  6. Yep, that and Punch and Judy toothpaste used to scrub off the ice magic I had on my ice cream !!

  7. There’s one more thing to tell, Matey leaves things bright, so it cleans the bath as well, there ain’t a mark in sight.

  8. This has nothing on the L’Oréal for Kids the fish shaped bottle! Especially the strawberry one. I recall tasting it once because it smelt soo good. 0/10 experience wouldn’t recommend

  9. I don’t get to forget him because my mum still puts one in my stocking every year. I am 32 years old.

  10. 3 things I could guarantee to get each Xmas in the 70s/80s, Matey, a Beano annual and a selection box.

Beano annual made it into the 90s actually but at some point Matey was discarded in favour of Insignia.
