  1. Can the royal navy not resupply subs?

I genuinely don’t understand how they run low on food.

  2. How did this happen? What specifically in the UK has occurred such that this and potentially other subs lack decent patrol provisions? As well, when and why was this and potentially the other three UK boomers given six months out when the protocol was eighty days?

  3. They can spend two weeks moving to a safe harbor or middle or sea far away from the patrol area and surface for 2-3 hours to get more supplies?

If they are patrolling the south china sea, they have enough time to move off the coast of Australia or even middle east to come up for supply. Similar for other areas

  4. Fuck it, turn off the sub and go fishing??? They’re in the fuckin ocean aren’t they??

  5. I feel like it would be of the up most importance to make sure your Nuclear ballistic missile sub is well taken care of. This seems like really bad management by the UK government and its military.

It’s no doubt in the best interest to national security that are governments make absolutely no compromises in regards to Nuclear weapons and the facilities, equipment, ships and Subs that use them.

  6. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/horrific-conditions-aboard-royal-nuclear-submarine-saw-navy-crew-food/) reduced by 80%. (I’m a bot)

    > A Royal Navy submarine crew were ordered to reduce movement and even 'share sweets' after running low on supplies during a six month patrol.

    > Fears were raised over the sailors' health during the six-month mission, with Royal Navy medics fearing a "Serious loss of life" as a result of dwindling food supplies aboard the vessel.

    > A former submarine captain, who is reported to have been briefed on conditions aboard the vessel, told The Sun: "Horrific is the only word. The Royal Navy website states:"The nuclear reactors that power the Astute class never need to be refuelled during their 25-year service period.

  7. I often see in USA’s nuclear sub documentaries that their food is the best in the navy, to compensate for the very stressfull environment that is stay in a sub for months under water.

Looks like some countries don’t care so much for their sailors.

  8. Helicopters can arrive on scene in a safe area to resupply the boat. I can’t see this as more than sensationalist tabloid nonsense.

  9. Did this happen recently? I’m not seeing anything suggesting when this happened.

  10. Horrific conditions for the navy is not enough sweets to go around. Meanwhile the army living in a hole in the mud eating 9 year old dried shit from a plastic bag while some dude with a 2nd grade education takes potshots at them

  11. Sounds like some big back energy was going on. Who was eating more than the share? Lol

  12. I thought I was reading an IMDB synopsis of Steven Segal’s next straight to streaming movie!

  13. The article mentions “female submarine staff”. Does this mean there are female sailors on board these submarines during these patrols? I might be missing something here but I thought females were not allowed on board, for obvious reasons.

  14. So are they upping the food supplies on the next run? Or just sayin “nah, it probably won’t happen again”?

  15. They’re doing it wrong, you don’t want a ‘serious loss of life’ you want a non-serious loss of life, amateurs obviously.

  16. They’re in a goddamn nuclear submarine, had they not said shit, they could’ve easily went in international waters and get resupplied, all while whoever the fuck they’re deterring thought they were still there

  17. I just read science writer Mary Roach’s book, “Grunt” on the science surrounding various aspects of men at war.
She got permission to go aboard a US nuclear submarine during her research.

Even on top of the line US subs, fatigue is a big problem due to constantly doing high precision drills and alternating shifts with minimal sleep time.
This results in lots of errors and poor performance.
Not the ideal situation on a vessel capable of destroying a country…..
