It’s really is sad to seen someone get so upset about a very minor effort to protect their own culture’s language, especially when at most these are an extremely minor inconvenience.
This is a text book example of a colonised mind.
Article is paywalled, can we get a TL;DR?
Is it just me or is the Irish times publishing a lot of rage bait recently?
The only thing I would agree about is the state agency names, Coimisiún na Meán for example. These should be primarily named in English where Irish and non Irish people have to deal with them, we are seen as an English language first country. The rest of his point are just tripe.

I’m in favour of more Irish language rather than less tbh
I’m a Dub. I’m in no way fluent by any means but if we see it more perhaps we hear it more
I just value being Irish I suppose. No offence to anyone else of course
Not a fan of the language but I still feel it should be displayed in the same way I think art, music, sport and other cultural aspects should be displayed.
What was it Churchill (allegedly) said – if we’re not fighting for art and culture then what the fuck are we fighting for?
Something like that anyway…
No Irish first always
As per our bunreacht, the irish text takes precedence over the English. Gaeilge needs to be revived in a bigger way. Even cúpla focail gach lá helps. Expecting plenty of down votes from the dirt brits on this sub 🙄
Okay if you don’t like Irish but this bollox of doing an article in the Times. They can fuck off from the Golan heights and take the fucking Irish times with them.
I’m of an age where Irish was beat into us at school and was simply ‘a good thing’ and couldn’t be argued with. I hope that today’s kids are being encouraged to engage with it more positively. That said, after 30 years in the public sector it is certainly the case that it occupies a very prominent position. Whether this is good or bad is probably down to individual views. I can say however that the more you need things translated (by the official accepted people) the slower everything gets. And there will still be some pedant pointing out how the translation has a mistake!
