If October’s double hurricanes knocked out your office or home workspace, Steven Peterman wants to help.

Peterman, owner of Pete’s Bagels, is launching a new co-working space in Gulfport called Monday Morning Club.

The spot at 1401 49th St. S in Gulfport is inspired by the nostalgic vibes of a vintage diner. Membership costs $50 a month, though anyone impacted by Milton or Helene can get a month for free. Peterman is also offering half-off membership for anyone who signs up before the opening on Monday.

“This was sort of a side passion thing,” he said. “It’s not something we’re trying to make tons of money off of.”

Peterman said he’s been thinking of opening Monday Morning Club as a community gathering space for a while.

“Then when the hurricanes happened, it’s just accelerated us getting it done,” he said. “My sister lost her house during the storm and she’s a freelancer. It just felt like it was needed.”

Pete’s Bagels uses the space next to Monday Morning Club as its production kitchen. Peterman had long dreamed of opening a diner but didn’t actually want to go through opening a new restaurant. He already slings bagels in St. Petersburg, Gulfport and Ybor City.

“I really wanted something that made people [part of] a community,” he said. “We have 10 authentic vintage booths that came from a pizza shop in Land O’ Lakes, so those are kind of fun.”

The space also will include a large communal table that encourages people to sit and work together.

Membership includes free coffee from Look Alive Coffee every day, as well as free bagels from Pete’s every Friday. Members have access to a fridge, and later, Peterman hopes to bring pre-packed snacks in to sell.

“I’m sure it’ll organically change as we get members and hear what everybody wants,” he said. “But we figured if we gave people a comfy seat and some hot coffee, that could get everybody started.”
