The energy crisis paralyzing Cuba: ‘There will be no change in the electricity sector until the government changes the economic model’ • It relies on imports it cannot afford and on trading partners that are supplying increasingly diminishing amounts of oil

  1. I mean like what happens now? The island is severely depopulated and poor and now can’t keep its electricity on. Do they sell themselves to China? Do they beg for IMF help with “changes” made to the economy? Or do they just continue to blame the capitalist pig dogs up north and nothing happens as usual

  2. The US embargo of Cuba is a draconian relic that needs to end. These people deserve the right to live safely and when the closest superpower keeps their shores at bay, this is an inevitable result. The US *should* have been working with Cuba since the Obama adminstration re-established ties with them, but then of course we had the nightmare years. Obama didn’t do enuf, but the asshole who followed him did nothing positive.

  3. What are they even supposed to do? It’s not the 1960s anymore – there doesn’t need to be an embargo. Especially in a time like this, a hurricane just hit them as well so it just adds to the problems. They literally cannot support themselves on their own, they are a small and poor island nation and they were a backwards country for a large part of the last few centuries.

Edit: I worded it poorly too, I’m not saying the government is not at fault, they are also part of the problem, but these embargos are just failures. They have done nothing but negatively impact civilians.

  4. Embargo ends with free elections and with Cuba stopping the brutal crackdown against its government.

But that would mean the Army which makes the most money in Cuba as it controls the biggest hotels and other sectors would need to accept a loss of power.

    Good luck convincing them.
