Russia Can’t Keep Spending Like This for Long

  1. Oh that made me laugh so hard:

    > the Russian government advised international participants traveling to the southwestern city of Kazan for the BRICS summit to bring cash in U.S. dollars or euros, as major credit card companies such as Visa and Mastercard have suspended operations on Russian soil since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.

  2. Unfortunately they can. They can outlast Ukraine because Putin will strip the Russian Zil of everything just to drive that carcass into Kiev.

And western officials must know this same truth. How long will we let this go on? We are beginning to sound like Putin about crossing this or that red line without any substance behind it. We must stand united with Ukraine to repel this nightmare.

  3. That’s Said since the beginning of the war. And ? Still capturing ground. And Russia knows it’s not over in 3 weeks. So what’s the point ?

  4. They are hoping to stop spending like this on Nov 6th, either way – just for different reasons.

  5. russia’s financial situation over the past few months has gotten significantly worse:

Oil prices are down, WTI down to $67 a barrel, Urals probably in the low $60s. Need a few more months of this.

Inflation still surging, driven by worker shortages and military spending.

21% interest rate makes borrowing money extremely expensive.

Even with the interest rates, nobody wants to buy russian bonds. Or at least not on anything but the most painful terms.

There’s other stuff too, but point is, russian economy could unravel faster than people realize.

  6. Again these articles still ignore what has been talked about for over a decade. Economists have been predicting that as the world reliance on oil starts to wane climate change will also make these Northern reserves easier to obtain in the future. And they have been right.

And it’s not a coincidence Russia feels they can weather this financial crisis and a prolonged War. Now that the Siberian strip is defrosting and they have a loyal buyer of these minerals and gases through China

  7. Been seeing these posts for over a year now, means nothing until we see revolt.. which we won’t because the majority of the population are passive and would happily exist on the bare minimum.

  8. Do you know how many times a similar story has been posted on Reddit? I am scratching my head at how Russia keeps defying so many journalist’s reports! Russia should be empty and bankrupt by now! And yet, they are not. The Great Russian Bear is sorely wounded but is still marching on. The problems caused by the death and destruction of today are slowly cumulative and God himself only knows when that butcher’s bill will start coming due. As it stands right now – there will be many Russian women who cannot find a husband. As for the economy? That too will recover due to the enormous natural resources Russia has. What is needed is not the slow incrementalism – Ukraine cannot win such a game of attrition. And that is the only option the West has truly given it.

  9. The same story, day after day, for many months. Russia will not go bankrupt so quickly, China will not allow that.
As long as China has the opportunity to drive Russia further into dependence by providing small aid (small for China), they will do so.
