Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced last Monday (28 October) that after a 13-year hiatus, Austria’s OMV resumed its exploration activity in Libya last Saturday (26 October), in plot (106/4) in the Sirte basin, to complete drilling operations in the exploratory well B1-106/4 (Hurricane Hope).
This announcement comes ahead of schedule as on 26 October the NOC had reported that it had expected OMV to resume operations within ‘‘weeks’’.
The NOC said Zueitina Oil Operations is overseeing the drilling of the well, which is expected to reach a final depth of 10,130 feet (3,087 meters) when drilling is completed.
The return of these companies, the NOC said, comes within the framework of its strategy to increase oil inventories, which is the result of a series of measures and successes that paved the way for the return of these companies and the resumption of their activities.
