Good day, people of r/Norway!

So, I have been living in this fine country for quite some time now and I want to learn the language now. I would also like to do that at a UDI approved place so I can use it for my permanent residence application later next year. I would like to get your opinions on my options, if anyone has experience with these.

First one I found is Note.no. This one seems to be quite reasonably priced at 9590 NOK and it is largely online. The downside is that I can’t find any information about this one online in English, I can’t tell if it’s a high quality course or not. Its website is also not confidence inspiring and has grammatical errors and out of date/expired information about the course itself at places. But I like that the wording on the website is mainly simple and clear and it’s not full of corporate sales lingo, so that’s a plus.

Another one that I’ve been recommended is the in-person Norwegian course at Folkeuniversitetet. This one is recommended by a close friend, so I know it’s probably good, but it seems to be over 5x more expensive. I am fine with that, as long as the quality of the education is also 5x better – I really want to learn the language well! Anyone knows if this course is well worth it or not?

Yet another option would be to study the language myself and take the exams, but I am just not good at languages in general, so I would probably not do very well with no guiding at all.

I would like to get some opinions on these options, and maybe other recommendations from people who are familiar with them.

Thank you!

You have to provide (UDI will access the certificate directly) a certificate from Kompetanse Norge after taking the A2/B1 norwegian language exam. UDI dont care where you learned the language from.

Classroom courses are much better than online courses for beginners. The online course is good from B1 onwards Eg. When you want to improve your grammar or writing skills.
