More than half of the U.S. winter wheat crop is under drought conditions and farmers in wheat-growing regions worldwide face a similar scenario, according to U.S. Wheat Associates, the overseas marketing arm for the industry.
About 52% of U.S. winter wheat is currently in drought, compared to 16% in June, said Steve Mercer, U.S. Wheat vice president of communications.
Conditions were dry from 2021 to 2023, but improved for the 2024 crop.
“When we look ahead to 2025 now, those dryness concerns are starting to pick up again,” Mercer said.
So depressing!!!
Kiss your croissants good-bye!
Are we already on the “find out” part of the saying?
The saddest part of this is that the ones that will suffer the most will be the wild animals.
Australia’s wheat crop is expected to increase in 2024-25, with a yield of 31.8 million tonnes. 20% above 10 year average.
And I thought Covid inflation was bad. The wurst is coming… without the side of bread next year
